Gmetal CNC Milling Service

CNC milling is one of the most commonly used machining methods in the machining industry. The workpiece is fixed on the worktable with a fixed fixture. Then the tool enters the workpiece at a certain angle, removes material from the solid workpiece, and forms various complex geometric shapes and parts by drilling or cutting, including plane milling and contour milling. It can also be used for drilling, reaming, threading, and tapping, reaming, boring, and thread processing. The tool is controlled by a special computer, which greatly improves reliability and repeatability while reducing the possibility of human error.

The Benefits of CNC Milling

Versatility: CNC milling machines are versatile and can perform a variety of machining operations. Able to use different cutting tools and perform multiple operations in a single setup, CNC milling machines can produce complex parts with high precision.

Complex geometries: CNC milling machines can produce parts with complex geometries that may be difficult to achieve with other machining methods.

Efficiency and Productivity: Once the CNC program is set, the machine can run continuously without constant operator intervention. This increases productivity and shortens cycle times, increasing throughput and efficiency.

Consistency and repeatability: CNC milling machines ensure consistent and repeatable results, even when manufacturing large quantities.

Flexibility and customization: CNC milling machines offer a high degree of flexibility and customization options. CNC programs can easily be modified to accommodate design changes or produce different parts.

Reduced setup time: CNC milling machines are equipped with tool changers, automatic tool offset measurement and clamping systems that significantly reduce setup time. After initial setup, subsequent adjustments can be made quickly and accurately, minimizing downtime and increasing overall machine utilization.

Different Types of CNC Milling Machines

3-axis machining centers are the most basic type of CNC milling machine, which operating in three axes: X, Y, and Z.These machines are suitable for a wide range of milling operations and are often used in general machining, prototyping, and small to medium-sized production runs.

On the basis of the 3-Axis, a rotary axis is added, generally 360° rotation in the horizontal plane. Through the rotation can make the product realize the processing of multiple sides, greatly improve the processing efficiency, reduce the number of clamping, and improve the production efficiency.

5-axis machining centers are capable of simultaneous movement in five axes, which allows for the machining of complex and intricate parts from various angles without the need for multiple setups. 5-axis machining centers are ideal for aerospace, automotive, and medical industries.

Related CNC Turning 2
CNC Turning

CNC turning is a particular form of precision machining in which a cutter removes material by making contact with the spinning work-piece. The movement of the machinery is controlled by computer instructions, allowing for extreme precision and repeatability.

Related CNC Bending 2
CNC Bending

CNC Bending is the process is more flexible as negative and positive angles, dimensions, and sequences are all programmable. Gmetal CNC Bending processes different work pieces one-off and as large batches. The automated tool change system eliminates manual setups between batches. It is possible to integrate Gmetal CNC Bending to other processes such as spot welding and clinching.

The Process of CNC Milling

  1. Design and Engineering: Design the milled parts which includes the dimensions, geometry, tolerances, and other specifications.
  2. CAM Programming: Once the design is finalized, CAM program is used to generate the CNC program that will control the milling machine.
  3. Material Setup: The workpiece material is securely mounted or fixtured onto the milling machine’s worktable.
  4. Tool Selection and Setup: Select appropriate cutting tools, then the tools are loaded into the tool holders and properly installed in the milling machine’s spindle.
  5. Machine Setup: The milling machine is set up by entering the CNC program into the machine’s control unit.
  6. Machining Operations: The CNC milling machine executes the programmed toolpaths to remove material from the workpiece. The cutting tools rotate at high speeds and move along the specified paths to shape the workpiece according to the design.
  7. Coolant and Lubrication: Coolant, is used during the milling process to cool the cutting tools, flush away chips, and reduce friction. Lubrication may also be applied to reduce tool wear and improve surface finish.
  8. Quality Control: Throughout the milling process, quality control measures are implemented to ensure that the machined part meets the specified requirements.
  9. Finishing Operations: After the main milling operations are complete, additional finishing operations may be performed as needed.
